FRED uses a three-part version number, for example 7.0.2. These parts are described as follows.
- Major version
The first number is the major version number, and changes when extensive changes are made to the syntax of the FRED language. Models written for versions before the current major version may require manual editing to be accepted in the new FRED syntax.
- Minor version
The second number is the minor version number and is incremented when new features are added to FRED. Models written for previous minor versions of FRED should still run as expected, but the results may be slightly different due to changes in random number sequences.
- Release version
The third number is the release version, and is incremented when bug fixes and improvements in stability or efficiency are added. Only models affected by the new changes should be affected by the incremental update.
